Coda Sull'Aria by Angelo Bello published on 2017-03-06T16:50:57Z This short work was created in 1996 at Les Ateliers UPIC in Alfortville (Paris), France as part of the residency and cursus program offered by the institution. Technical aspects: This work is the result of two fundamental processes: (1.) The mathematical process known as convolution, and (2.) Granular synthesis. An audio file was generated with the UPIC system utilizing its extensive capabilities for iterative FM feedback synthesis. That signal was then subjected to processing with the early ground-breaking program called Cloud Generator (by Roads and Alexander). A second audio file was generated with the UPIC system (following the same iterative feedback FM synthesis process). The granulated audio file and the second UPIC file were than convolved to generate the sound heard here. The program Sound Hack (by Tom Erbe), was used to perform the convolution process. The relation that generated this sound could be summarized as follows, if the symbol s - : : : - is used to indicate a granular synthesis operation, then: [:::{UPIC (fm)~} ]*[UPIC(fm)~] ==> Coda Sull'Aria.
