Priest Music Priest Queens, New York As a New York City underground artist, Priest was born in raised in Detroit and Metropolitan Detroit, and began sharpening his craft at the age of 9 or 10, studying the greats and mimicking styles to develop his own unique and incomparable style. Overtime, and despite the ever-changing current of music, Priest established his creative properties with his storytelling abilities and poetic narratives through observant eyes. At age 24, he moved to New York with only $400 and a bag of clothes hoping to build a new life, develop his craft and gaining experience and perspective in his journey. Drawing a large amount of his inspiration lyrically from Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye, Priest's lyrical content encompasses tones of urban commentary, social dialogue and ironic circumstances of everyday life. In essence, Priest is a realist who documents life in his purest form: uninhibited and unrestrained. These qualities are present in every facet of his music where he envisions the world as he sees it and paints the picture accordingly. In October of 2013, Priest created two projects, both with a general theme and tonality, both albums using his signature complicated lyrical whit combined with poetic musings and thoughtful declarations of self. City High, released in October 2013, is a bit of a "street-corner serenade" that paints the picture of an street journalist understanding his city and its inhabitants, and his experiences. "This Thing of Ours", a collaborative project with French producer Jaze Baqti, expounds on good music accompanied with Jazz/Hip-hop instrumentation that, at times, borders on self-examination and reflection, but also of an artist that is willing to throw down the gauntlet and challenge anyone believing themselves courageous enough compete lyrically. In the competitive landscape of Hip-hop, Priest proves himself to be as much of a threat as he is a proud contributor of his culture. When asked "Why do you want to pursue Hip-hop?" his answer is as simple as it is honest: "Simple. Because I want to live forever."
