Jeff Gioioso
Music has been the biggest passion in this individuals life since the moment he was able to understand it. Diaper clad he was glued to MTV. While growing up he took lessons on numerous instruments. Then came the idea of DJing and producing techno, tech house and deep house music. Jeffrey Gioioso also known as The Red One, has music in his blood and rhythm pulsing through his veins. From the time Jeff started collecting music, he has always been a fan of it. Especially electronically produced music.
In 2003 he started exploring electronic music by getting involved in the nightlife scene. Throughout Manchester NH, Boston MA, and Providence RI, he began attending a wide variety of events. Making his rounds in the nightclubs, often meeting promoters, and event coordinators. Around the same time Jeff began to frequent certain venues, he began to develop and cultivate the art of DJ'ing. A passion he hadn't discovered until meeting certain acquaintances; who soon became friends.
In late 2004 he and his friend Jackie Rivela a.k.a. The Mixtress Pink began playing out as a duo. They spun at Energy, and The Complex in downtown Providence RI.
In late 2005 Jeff had one of his first solo sets, then on a larger scale Club Therapy RI - invited him to debut at their 4 year anniversary party.
In early 2007 Jeff moved in with his friend DJ / Producer Dan Gerade in Waltham MA. It was at this time that the nick name " The Red One" really took on an identity and shape. The Red One's name and sound simultaneously began a transformation. Stylistically his signature sound began evolving from "House music" to the " Dark Minimal Techno " sounds of the underground scene which had consumed him over the last four years. Surrounded by his local influences, even living with one of them- Jeff began to identify with, and pick up on music production using the program Reason. Having had experience using Fruity Loops and coupled with his DJ knowledge- honing in on the structural side of the music was easier to do with" Reason" since he already had a basic understanding of the elements.
In 2008 a working relationship as well as a friendship started to grow between Jeff and his biggest local influence, DJ /Producer Scot Cox. Countless days were spent where he would get out of work, go straight to Scot's studio - and just sit there, watching him produce using Ableton Live. They would throw down for hours on Scot's extensive vinyl collection. As Jeff so humbly stated "It was basically like going to school just with a super informal syllabus". It was around this time that things started to pick up for The Red One in the Boston scene, part in thanks to Maria Dilulis, owner of Bon Ton productions, in Boston MA. Maria was involved with a Friday night at "Under Bar" in the Theater District of Boston. It was there that The Red One got the opportunity to frequently see and play with his local influences. His influences being, Insomnia (Sketch One and Andre Perry), Scot Cox, Dan G., Greg Schneider, Justin Massie and many others. "On some of those nights we would even find ourselves hitting up Sal Lograsso's studio for hours and hours just putting in work whenever it was convenient" said Jeff. Greg Schneider was also a helping hand in The Red One's DJing career by having him play at Waterclub in Quincy Ma. and also at Sanctuary in the Financial District of Boston.
In 2009 The Red One started to become an active member of the Club Therapy team working along side Jeff LeClair; who was the manager of the nightclub and also owner and operator of Volume Productions. The Red One could be found not only playing frequently at the club, but also spending countless hours helping decorate for themed parties. He began working on programing the lighting rig, as well as the sound system.
From 2009 throughout 2011 came a boost in The Red One's activity. Now he was not only behind the decks at Therapy, but also branching off. He began playing at Envyless Production, and Volume parties held at Rise Afterhours in Boston. Late 2011 dawned the closing of Club Therapy it devastated and shook up the underground music scene in Providence. Around the same time Jeff had received a copy of Ableton Live from a fellow DJ Anthony Dispirito. That transaction changed the game yet again for the aspiring DJ, and Producer. Experienced using several types of music production software, and having sat in the studio with his friends and fellow DJ /Producers; "The Red One" picked up on Ableton Live quickly. He has not looked back since. Ableton allowed The Red One to channel his energy into music production. The scene had taken a nose dive after the closing of Club Therapy.
It was during 2012 that The Red One was in contact with a friend of his, Andy Roberts - of UNstructured Sounds, based out of Denver Colorado. The main topic of their discussion was - a mulitipul day event in Denver- geared toward Denver's thriving underground techno scene. In March of 2013 The Red One attended the first annual Denver Winter Showcase. There he had the opportunity to meet, and shake hands with other aspiring DJ /Producers from around the United States and beyond. The Red One also played at Norad Dance Bar, in downtown Denver during day 2 of this event, giving him a chance to play quite a few of his own productions. At the end of the 3 day event, Andy Roberts asked Jeff to be the East Coast representative for "UNstructured Sounds" and the "Denver Winter Showcase". After the event Jeff was contacted by Zeke Noevol, owner of Dustcity Music- based out of El Paso Texas-whom he had met during DWS. This discussion was in regards to putting one of his tracks out on the DWS compilation from "Dustcity Music". In late April of 2013 The Red One's first release of his track "Channeled Energy" came out on Dustcity Music. "Thanks to Zeke Noevol and also Andy Roberts for putting on the event that brought everyone together" said Jeff.
Jeff "The Red One" now currently a resident of Pawtucket Ri, is working with some of New Englands best local talent, in the efforts of starting their own label.
The Red One's newest unreleased track "Pastel Pipes" with a remix being put together by NYC's Luciano Pardini; will indeed be one of the first releases on the label. The label is scheduled to launch sometime during the fall/winter of 2013.
Jeff is also now an active member in the Denver CO. nightlife scene. He has upcoming gigs at venues such as the Beatport Lounge at Beta. Also, sitting down with the owner of Norad, and the UNstructured Sounds team - to start the planning for the Denver Winter Showcase 2014. Jeff " The Red One" Gioioso is now looking even further into the future. Seeing all of the gifts and blessings that DJing and music production have bestowed, he happily and with momentum moves forward towards the bigger picture. Passion for music is a force to be reckoned with, and apparently the talent and zeal of New England's own "THE RED ONE".......is to.
