8footfelix 8Foot Felix Northcote Combining inspired theatrics with considerable musical prowess, 8Foot Felix reveal a treasure chest of infectious ditties that blend blues-inspired sea shanties with gypsy polka and piratical funk. Clearly evident at their live shows, the members of 8FF are an eclectic bunch of multi-talented entertainers. Singer/keyboardist and chief composer Will Tait, known as much for his thespian talents as his on-stage antics with 8FF, delivers tantalising melodies and a poetic rolling lyric. Ably supported by the enigmatic chanteuse Susie Hopkins and the horns of Brendan Jones (Trumpet) and Tom Starr (French Horn), the band is rhythmically bonded by the junket beats of Steve Turnock. Aural intricacies are provided by string-fellows Esther Henderson (Fiddle) and Jamie McElhinney (Double Bass). After officially launching in May 2011, 8Foot Felix played an intensive string of shows in their hometown of Melbourne, soon after setting sail for distant lands and the renowned Burning Man festival in Nevada, USA. Subsequent triumphant shows in San Francisco and Honduras were met with similarly heightened enthusiasm, and set the tone for an exciting summer back in Melbourne. A stomping Friday night gig at Rainbow Serpent Festival helped plot the course for a big 2012, and that’s exactly what it’s turned out to be. Captain's Log EP was recorded and launched to a sold out and pulsating Regal Ballroom in October, and now the summer season begins.
