Since his early years in the mid-2000s as a club staple in the electronic music scene in Calgary, 8bit Ninja has been an unseen musical force striking from the shadows. After holding a residency at Sal’s on 17th for two years, he ventured into the world of radio, volunteering at CJSW 90.9 FM and becoming the host of a show called “The Mix Up.” He also became a writer for the local music magazine Beatroute and FREQ. As a radio host and journalist, 8bit Ninja has interviewed many of the biggest names in Electronic music including Alex Metric, Vibesquad, Plump DJs, K+Lab, Woodn’Soo, Timothy Wisdom, Gaudi, Funkanomics, Morgan Page, and many more, as well as numerous live performances from local, regional and international artists.
8bit Ninja is also one of the forces behind Fozzyfest, a festival that has seen enormous success in the last three years and located on the shores of beautiful Lake Koocanusa in BC.
Beginning in 2012, he joined forces as a member of the Fozzyfest Organizing Committee (FFOC), at first stage managing at the Beach Stage and eventually switching to the Forest Stage where he is the residing stage manager along with Robbie C.
As a DJ, 8bit Ninja has made a name for himself playing with his textbook Gameboy and incorporating it into sets. His unique blend of multi-genre tracks along with synthetic Gameboy sounds has become a staple of his live show. He’s shared stages with Unlimited Gravity, Jpod, Calvertron, Caged Baby, Tantric Decks, Shamanic Technology, Kursa, Treblesum, Melonade, Fat Pat, Ladytron and many others. He’s also no stranger to western Canadian festivals, having played at Motion Notion, Connect, Fozzyfest, Wicked Woods, Mad Hatter, Edfest, April Flowers, and Cheese over the last 4 years.
As a ninja, he hopes to continue his ascent from the shadows in 2015, wailing on his Gameboy and just otherwise being rad.
