The compression crushing the drums down sounds nice but it kinda fills up more than its fair share of the mix. Maybe crossfade it with a little of the dry signal to reintroduce some of the original dynamics?
-
@Campadrenalin: I didn't mind that 'thumpy' pushiness to be honest, but I will give your suggestions a try later tonight, just to hear what it'd do to the sound!

A basic acid stomper, not too fast. Soothing Mellotron choirs with two 303 lines battling it out. Kinda 1988'ish.Pink Gelatin Uploaded by zuur Start following Send a message on October 23, 2009 18:32

Just a track with some acid, a bit of groove and a big swirling synth line. I can't really do anything more with it, so I've recorded a session and filed it under ' finished'.Fade To Grey (Zuur Reworking) v.03 Uploaded by zuur Start following Send a message on October 06, 2009 20:43

I can hear the 80s influence here for sure, but it only adds to the awesomeness.

[UPDATED VERSION!] A friend suggested I take a swipe at this Visage classic. It's a favourite eighties track of mine, so I really want to keep the darkish melancholy and do it justice. From the earlier version there's more mastering, structure, volume control and (intentional) glitches.Goldberg Beats (First Take) Uploaded by zuur Start following Send a message on September 22, 2009 19:37
93 Plays Ambient Classical Techno mp3This is an idea I had in my head for ages and finally had time to try it out. Bach is such a generous composer, you can't really distort his music, whatever form you give it. Did the cowbells myself. I really like these, they add just enough spice to make the classics accessible without screwing up what makes them classics.

The audio stretching and timing changed somewhat in Live 8, so I'll keep on tweaking with classical tunes to get the hang of it. Another bit of Vivaldi - his Concerto for Recorder RV439.Deep Disco [Take 3] Uploaded by zuur Start following Send a message on August 30, 2009 17:52

love them bongo's feel very natural where they from i heard them before
-
@The Observer: They're from a special sample cd with just bongo and conga sounds. Not sampled from a particular track as far I know.

Yet another version, more balanced in volumes and mastering. Tightened the screws. Removed the acid riff as it wasn't working. Added an extra phat low beat to get the track really pumping. Took a few samples for a spin. I like where it is going though I still have some things to do to it... Ab...Speedy Recovery Uploaded by zuur Start following Send a message on August 27, 2009 19:23

This peculiar track was released in in March 1995. I remember this was made in one eleven hour session and what I remember is the bass line melodies that just kept coming. This was using just four (4) channels to fit all that stuff into. Some nifty rearranging of a French accordeon sample before ...Acid Heights Pt. Yep, that is a total tracker sound. I use a tracker-ish program (Renoise), I like that sound. I'm not normally an acid guy, but this stuff is good.
-
@Campadrenalin: I tried Renoise before I switched to Ableton. Couldn't get it "in my system" but I regularly go to Renoise.com to see what's up. Glad you like my kind of acid :D

Ha, so cool. I rediscovered some ancient tracks from my days as a tracker. This is Acid Heights, a track in two parts. Originally released in Impulse Tracker format on October 8th 1996. Nearly thirteen years ago! O_o Will see if there are any others worth converting. I would buy my TB-3...Acid King Uploaded by zuur Start following Send a message on July 17, 2009 20:43

not sold on cowbell maybe a bit of processing on them
-
@DyLABs: I did do some processing on them (bit of reverb, some eq), but they're recorded via a rather lowfi method. I don't think I will return to this track just to redo the cowbells tho'...

Jesus wots that filtered with? - beautiful :o
-
@raytrace: On my default set in Live I have set low/hi pass filters that are connected to knobs on my BCR2000. At the right time I tweak the knobs to make that wooh! transistion. Works great because of the snare roll in the sample :)
-
@zuur: yeah it sounds brilliant :)

And here we are, the final version. Ditched most of the vocals, redid some parts like the cowbell and just freaked away on the 303 - switching waveforms mid-flight! :) So many knobs, just two hands... Deleted the old one (sorry if you commented) but I think this one is so new and fresh it warrant...Sternal Fracture (First Take) Uploaded by zuur Start following Send a message on July 09, 2009 17:02

I always love the melancholic sound (to me at least) of the TB-303 under certain circumstances. I have recorded three different acid basslines and let them intertwine. Played some big minor chords on top of those and added some dreamy piano. Played those groovy cowbells myself, live into Ableton....
lovely lovely choirs indeed - Im gonna check if I have any Mellotron samples around now :p
@raytrace: I use M-Tron, but there's bound to be tons of samples around. I must hold back not to use it in every track ;)
@zuur: yeh i keep meaning to get that - even Gordon Reid says it's great
