Throughout his career, Rick Party has developed a formula for bringing together a top team of professionals to join him in the studio to produce a daily show that consistently remains fresh, entertaining and relatable to the listener. Surrounded by a great team, Rick Party has successfully created countless show topics and features that are interactive and engage the listening audience. Listeners become glued to the station, whether driving in their car, sitting at their desk listening to the live online stream or jogging in the park listening to the mobile podcast. Rick Party entered the radio industry at the age of 15 with his first gig at Chicago Youth Center’s radio station, WCYC. With a drive to develop his talent and learn more about the technical side of radio, Party enrolled in the Columbia School of Broadcasting. With mounting on-air success and the tools learned in his studies at Columbia, it was apparent that Rick Party was destined to be in radio. WCYC appointed him station manager at the age of 19.

From WCYC, Rick Party’s first big break came with a position in Wilmington, North Carolina at WBMS. From there he did stints in Macon, Georgia; Charleston, South Carolina; and Norfolk, Virginia. Rick Party caught the program director Elroy R.C. Smith in Dallas, Texas at KJMZ. Smith hired him. He debuted on the microphone for the first time in a Top 10 market. Rick Party became a market phenomenon beating the heritage urban station to become Arbitron ranked #1…12+ and 18-34. The successful ranking trend has followed him from Dallas to Chicago, Miami and Atlanta.

Leading what some would call a quiet revolution, Rick Party has transformed his passion for radio into a preeminent enterprise that is fast-forwarding the face and sound of urban radio. In 2004, he became known as one of the first top ranked urban radio personalities to bravely create a syndicated morning show exclusively heard on the internet. The show proved to be successful, earning new listeners for Rick Party across the world. But with the newness of internet broadcasting and undetermined rules of governance for the broadcast of music for the show, the FCC demanded that the broadcast be ceased or be fined. Rick Party was one of the first to cross the threshold and lead to the opportunity for many personalities to start their own internet show.

Rick Party believes in building from a solid foundation of education. His mother is Cancer Survivor, a retired educator with the Chicago Board of Education and he credits her for instilling in him the drive for knowledge. Today, Rick Party is an advocate for education within the industry. He credits his success behind the microphone to the pioneers of radio he has worked with over the years, as well as having the ability to operate new technology that changes the game each day. Strong mentors at the start and throughout his career have helped to develop his talent, achieve his goals, and most importantly, helped him remain grounded and humble. He credits industry legends Earl Boston, Steve Crumbley, Elroy Smith, Tony Richards, Tom Joyner, Doug Banks, Russ Parr and Steve Hegwood for playing key roles as mentors and developers of his talent.

As one of the signature voices of urban radio, Rick Party is a champion of sharing his knowledge and proponent for diversification in the careers of radio talent. He mentors both male and female radio veteran personalities and those working to enter the industry. Rick Party feels that is how urban radio was built and he is committed to the responsibility through teaching to preserve history and shape the future of radio for tomorrow.

In recent years, Rick has stepped from behind the mic and added actor and TV host to his repertoire. He most recently appeared on the popular Chicago daytime talk show “Windy City Live” as a judge in their Search for a Star Contest.

Zurek “Rick” Party’s career has taken many rewarding twists and turns.
