DJ ZhamoZha was never into electronic music, until he discovered Balkan Beats in mid 2000s. When he realised there was no one to play this music in Moscow, he taught himself DJing and became a co-founder and resident of Balkanizacija, a nomad party line that quickly gained cult following in the Moscow night life scene. He especially favors more groovy and bassy down-tempo angle of the genre, although as a party takes on, anything goes into one crazy and happy extravaganza of brass, bass and beats. More recently, ZhamoZha has been promoting his own project Elektroswinka, where he plays electro swing – another genre blending modern urban beats with something that has soul – this time all that jazz from the roaring 20s. Apart from Moscow, over the last couple of years ZhamoZha spinned in places like Paris, New York and Montreal – and who knows where the groove takes him next.
