Thomas Ploch, born 1980 in Mannheim, Germany, with polish roots, started getting into electronicmusic at the tender age of 14. Naturally, living in one of the birthplaces of Germany's Breakbeat and Drum and Bass culture, Drum and Bass was his first glance into the depths of electronic music. Infected by the Jungle Fever he was looking for a way to express himself, but his first idea of becoming a DJ was shattered back then by the financial requirements, so he decided to become an MC, who during his now 14 year lasting careerdeveloped to a well known and respected artist in Germany. He performed at numerous different locations throughout Germany and the U.K, including major Drum and Bass events like Innovation, Kings Of The Jungle or Jungle Fever to name only a few.
Being highly influenced by the neurotic sound that evolved from artists such as Ed Rush and Optical, his preference for dark atmospheres, stomping basslines and abstract technoid percussions started a natural shift towards Techno music that was completed by the beginning of 2009. After he had finished his studies of computational linguistics at the University in Heidelberg, his interest in new technology and the progress made in digital audio processing finally allowed him to be a DJ. He began to discover all the small bits and pieces of a new genre which he combined to a dark and driving mix style focusing on clever grooves and abstract sounds. Together with his partner Lars Redmann aka Couch Lock, who shares the same views and musical ideas, he started the Mechno music project, which stands for dark mechanical techno made for the dancefloor, soon earning him various gigs around the Rhine-Neckar-Region in clubs like Loft Club, MS Connexion, Halle02 and Karlstorbahnhof.
By spring 2010 he also started producing his own tracks, using a Yamaha CS-1X Synth with Cubase 5 as sequencing software that he later dropped in favour of Ableton controlled with an APC 40. After taking some time learning the craft, relentlessly trying out new things, studying tutorials andbeing inspired by artists like Audio Injection, Drumcell, Monoloc or Dubfire, his musical style developed into complex drum arrangements with heavy subs and dark and disturbing sound scapes. Lately his talent raised more and more attention and was spotted by various inprints. He has now released tracks on Freitag, Triskel Tech, Divided and Plastiq and is running his own monthly live radio show on FNOOB Techno, where he and Couch Lock present 2 hours of the best and latest releases in Dark Minimal and Techno.
