this is dj jay ray from friesland and i started deejaying in 1994 when vinyl records already were mostly replaced by cds so it wasn´t easy always to get the favorite traxx on vinyl. maybe you remember 1994 - it still was the golden age of hip-hop: gang starr, lords of the underground, arrested development, nas, erule, wu tang clan, artifacts, heavy d., coolio, souls of mischief, beatnuts, blackalicious... the list of creators of the good rap classix seems to be endless ;) in the late 90s i was deejaying and rapping in some crossover bands - nowadays some people may call it numetal - it was music inspired by the artists on the famous "judgement night" sampler, rage against the mashine, such a surge, black eyed blondes, thumb etc.
since 2001 i´m playing records for the dancefloors in clubs and on various events after having won a dj contest in our local discotheque mark4 in zetel. first i decided to play the dancefloor tunes from r´n´b to rap, better known as black music. a few years later when mylo´s "drop the pressure" and shapeshifter´s "lolas theme" were released, more and more electronic music filled my crates.
nowadays i´m a kind of allround dj, but instead of the average allrounder who only plays the mainstream party sound, i play alternative mainstream club tunes. paradox - but how else should i describe it? :D
