About
When I left Florida, I left with a cheap cardboard-like guitar, $150 bucks in tips from work, and an 87' Buick I bought from someone at a doughnut shop way too early in the morning… I had decided that I wanted to fulfill my dream as a musician in New York City.
Well, that old Buick barely made it to Virginia before it finally broke down… So I thought, you know… I'll just stay for a bit to make some money before I get back on the road. Well, I got a job and started playing around town, made a few friends and made a life here in the meantime.
Its hard to get a band together in a music town, surprisingly - but I played music for my girlfriend and kept working on new ideas, and in September of 2009 she encouraged me to give it another shot. We couldn't move to New York, but that didn't mean I couldn't be the musician I wanted to be anyway.
I picked the first 4 songs, started recording them, and once they were recorded (pre-mastered) we went to Florida for Christmas. I gave those 4 songs to my mom who was ecstatic of course and she asked me when I was finishing the CD. Oh the pressure!
So, my Girlfriend and I got back in the car for another 14 hour drive and talked about my first CD. What it would be about, what songs I would use, and what it would be called. We decided on "Groundwork", since it was to be the foundation of my life in music..
I worked on it all through 2010, but as you might know - its really expensive to be serious about something like this. Before the end of the year, I married my best friend and girlfriend of 9 years, and no matter what they tell you, there's no such as a cheap wedding! I don't regret a bit of it, but now…. everyone's asking when we're having kids - so I'm feeling the crunch.
I feel I cant tell my children to follow their dreams if I didn't finish mine. So I'm working on completing something extraordinary before they are born.
The goal: finish the dream, finish the CD.
