In a few years, rapid buses could shuttle commuters between Detroit and Pontiac just as conveniently as they could drive themselves. The federal government committed $6.5 million dollars toward development of bus rapid transit along the Woodward Avenue corridor linking the city and the suburbs. Potential users of those buses will have their say on the project at five public meetings this month, organized by the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments. WDET's Pat Batcheller asked SEMCOG's Carmine Palombo how rapid buses could overcome the inefficiencies of the region's existing bus systems.
