Last week members of Libya's ethnic Berber minority forced their way into Parliament in Tripoli, demanding greater rights and recognition. The Berbers were brutally suppressed under Ghaddafi. Even their language was outlawed. Libya's Berbers want protection for their culture and identity to be included in Libya's constitution. Susan Gilson Miller, a professor of history at UC Davis and author of "A History of Modern Morocco: 1830-2000" and co-editor of "Berbers and Others Beyond Tribe and Nation in the Maghreb," tells us about the demand for Berber rights in Libya and throughout North Africa.
