With over 300 homicides for the year in Chicago through July 2012 Luis has become increasingly exasperated with the "Why's" of violence among young minorities. During a show in August he asked, "what is it about us that makes this behavior acceptable?" A listener suggested the Overdrive talk with Dr. Carl Bell professor of psychiatry and public health at the University of Illinois at Chicago about youth violence in Chicago. Dr. Bell has studied youth violence and the efficacy of programs who's aim is to curb violence. Dr. Bell suggested that there are some cultural issues we are battling as well as focusing too much on risk factors and ignoring what he calls protective factors.
