I just got an iPhone (4) today and the first thing I downloaded was Nanostudio. This is what I came up with after playing around with it for a couple of hours. This is 100% Nanostudio.
I was initially going to stop the song after the first section (about halfway through), but there's a field in Nanostudio where it says how many parts you've used and how many you've got left. I got to that point and saw that I'd used 124 parts of 250. There was something of a challenge in that - being told that the software was limited to 250 parts and that I'd only used half of them. So I decided to add another section and extend the song. As it stands, I'm using 243 of 250 parts. So it's safe to say that in terms of length, this is about the maximum of what Nanostudio can do. Of course you can program with a lot more intricacy, but this was just playing around.
What do you think? The overall sound is a bit lacking.. But the flexibility of the internal synths is phenomenal! They are surprisingly full-featured. I'll have to try loading my own samples in there next time and see if it actually degrades them or if it was just the samples I was working from.

You make better music on a £8.99 iPhone app than I make on a full desktop ;)

@terbo: I dunno if it'll become my fave studio tool, but I think every band, artist + DJ should have an iPhone. Looking forward to shooting footage of every rehearsal, soundcheck and gig with the in-built HD camera and iMovie. :)

@Blip Interactive: Thanks for that! I'll check that out! This track was made without looking at the manual at all or even any tutorials. I think it speaks well of your software that it's so intuititive, I was able to make this with no prior knowledge. But it's also good to know that there is clearly a lot to learn once I do look into the manual.

Geezzz... 10 years ago creating synths like that was only possible in professional studio. Today? Must buy myself an iPhone!

my iPhone is already my top studio instrument. i rely heavily on iDrum for sounds and programming. i can make all sorts of wild sfx with stuff like Dub Siren and Star6. i record out of the headphone jack with one cable direct into my macbook pro 1/8" line in...

If you change some of your parts to patterns and use their repeat property (see page 30 of the PDF manual) then I reckon you'll probably need far less that 100 parts. Nice tune!

Really cool! Hard to believe that this was created with an iPhone app. Gotta love the tech.
