Regarding your "clipping": The most important thing is to make sure you don't hit the maximum level in your recording. There may be a red light or something such on your recording device that will tell you you've hit peak level. Adjust the volume down until you have just a bit of room under that. You should never see the red peak level light come on when the volume is adjusted properly. As long as the recording isn't extremely quiet, you would be better off slightly too quiet than slightly too loud, as digital recorders produce the type of noise artifact you hear in your recording. Afterwards either yourself or someone willing could then increase the volume digitally until the level is correct.

that is a device or circuit for limiting the amplitude of the popping noise, so it does not crackle

whatch out for the clipping on this - could do with a limiter?
