Biography

Vanity (Matt Oliver) is an up and coming 19 year old Electronic producer from Leicester (UK) currently studying a Music Technology Diploma at college. After hearing ‘Fabriclive 37’ by Caspa and Rusko back in 2007, and Skream’s ‘Stella Sessions’ on Rinse FM Vanity was blown away by the sound, and coming from a Dub and Reggae influenced background, he has been immersed in the Bass music scene ever since. He first took an interest in music production after being inspired by the likes of Massive Attack, Skream and Burial back in 2009. After getting a copy FL Studio from his mate, Vanity was instantly hooked on producing every since that day. Now 2012, we’ve just seen his first release take off (‘Low Voltage Vol. 19’) and he continues to push the deeper, darker side of the Dubstep world.

Vanity’s sound blends a mixture of dark basslines, roaring synths, pummelling subs, mythical, mesmerizing pads and clean-cut drums processed to perfection. Although his productions are deep and meditative, when played out live they will surely get people zoned out on the dance floor. Based around the 140 bpm mark, Vanity always seems to impress. All his productions are amazingly mastered and contain a strong backbone of drums, percussion and subs that is standard in the darker, dungeon side of the Dubstep scene.

As well as a free remix EP containing a blazing remix of Blu Mar Ten’s track ‘All Or Nothing’, Vanity’s first release (‘Low Voltage Vol. 19’) has seen him progress more as an artist. With his signature synth presets and blinding production techniques, listening to the EP is like taking a journey into the dark realms of outer space. Already on the well-established ‘Phantom Hertz Recordings’, his EP has received big love and support from the likes of BunZer0, Ben Verse (Pendulum), dBridge, Content, N-Dread, J Robinson, and Razor Rekta (to name but a few), and has had airplay on the likes of Sub FM, BBC Radio One, Rood FM, Spark FM, Atomic Vibes, Sored FM and The Redfire Show.

Acclaim for Low Voltage Volume 19

'For those of you who lurk in the deeper dark depths, this is for you.' - Trusik Dubstep Blog.

'Vanity takes us deep and minimal with his single release on Phantom Hertz Recordings.. ‘Fifth Dimension’ is a true roller, with sparse percussion and a deep sub - true minimal style, as is ‘The First Step’ - another pounding sub-line and a very nice snare..' - Deep, Dark, Dungeon Dubstep Blog.
