Here is a mega-mix of some first wave shoegaze tracks stemming mainly from the UK (except for one from the US and one from...Czech Republic!). I strayed away from some of the obvious classics like My Bloody Valentine, Lush, Ride, Chapterhouse, The Telescopes, etc and dug into the crates from some of the more obscure outfits that also enjoyed some major effects pedal action!
Track list:
Love Sick by Fury Things (Cheree Records 1990)
Shy Me by Nature Things (Action Records 1991)
Change You Leaving by Feral (Lust Recordings 1991)
Mirrored by Drop (Chapter 22 1991)
Slyde by Blair 1523 (Wilde Club Records 1992)
Sunriser by That Uncertain Feeling (Dead Dead Good 1991)
Something Sonic by Beautiful Happiness (Cheree 1990)
Who's by The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa (Ecstasy Release 1991)
Ride by The Lavender Faction (Lust Recordings 1990)
Need To Be by Headtime (Cherry Red 1991)
Saints & Razors by Aenone (kokopop 1993)
Jealousy Comes To The Rescue by Flood (Quarry 1991)
Space Ship by The Suncharms (Wilde Club Records 1991)
Give Her Tomorrow by The Waiting Sound (Engergy-Vent 1990)
Sugar I Swear by Whipping Boy (Cheree 1990)

Love all of the stuff by Drop. Their catalog should really be re-issued.

I too was there (sort of---living in the states but reading NME, Melody Maker, Sounds, Lime Lizard, etc religiously). A lot of these bands slipped through the cracks and I found out about them after the fact. Labels like Lust and Cheree didn't make it on the import lists like Creation or Dedicated. Hope you dig the mix. There's a Volume 2 in the works which I'll drop soon.

I always get suspicious when I see a list like this. Considering I was there when it was still called shoegazing, I went to gigs every week, & I have more records than anyone I know, I only have 2 records on this list. Drop & The Nature Things.
The only other band I've heard of in this list is TEST & that was in the last 5 years. Seriously I would read NME every week & I've never heard of these other bands, let alone in connection with shoegazing. These tracks must be the only single or Ep these bands produced. Certainly The Nature Things only had one ep (& it wasn't even on discogs till I put it there), although Drop had an album too.
I thought I might have something valuable with The Nature Things but it was still available on the Action Records website last year!
Anyway I'll give them a listen...

I think some of these labels got screwed at some point with bad distribution and got lost in the shuffle. But Discogs.com has been an amazing tool in finding these rare imprints. The two Suncharms singles on Wilde are awesome.

Some forgotten favourites on here. Thanks, will be blogging about this in the next few days on http://shoegazekid.tumblr.com/
Was just saying to someone, I did have a Wilde Club Records sampler CD from a few years back - had all sorts on like That Uncertain Feeling, The Pushkins.... Really did expect more from them, especially as John peel used to play a lot of their stuff....
