shanghai "wen miao temple" confucious "da cheng hall" tree wind "street sweeper" quiet china "bivouac recording"

[Sounds of Shanghai] Recorded May 14, 2009. Upon arrival to the Wen Maio Temple, one thing that strikes you is the silence of the place. It is hard to believe that a block away is heavy construction and traffic.

This very qiuet recording was taken under a tree in front of the Da Cheng Hall under a tree. On the tree there are hundreds of wishes written on cards that people have tied on the tree. If you listen closely, you can hear them rustle with the leaves when the wind blows. A tour guide is heard in the distance showing a tourist around, and a street sweeper is present making the only noise in the compound. I recommend headphones for this track.

Also, try getting lost in the side streets around the temple. They are just as silent and are an amazing contrast with the life just across the street.

    Recorded with a Sony PCM-D50.
