About

Born in Seville, Spain, Felix Caceres fronts the Dark Techno project Under Konstruktion. Caceres is also a member of the experimental noise group For Your Own Safety.

Under Konstruktion is currently based in London, UK, where Caceres decided to relocate two days before his eighteenth birthday in 2003, to pursue his musical ambitions. Caceres has been DJing in London and around Europe under the moniker DJ Fe ever since. He has also been performing as Under Konstruktion since 2011 when he played in London for the first time.

Under Konstruktion initially formed in 2008 and came after Caceres’ previous project which was more experimental-noise based. Born out of the frustration at the music scene in his native Seville, or lack thereof Caceres’ music has been constantly evolving and the previous project was the stepping stone to Under Konstruktion and helped Caceres define his current sound. In an interview he described Under Konstruktion as “more polished and much cleaner sounding,“ than previous efforts.

When Caceres’ started the Under Konstruktion project, musically it was less repetitive and structured and more Electronica sounding combined with Techno. In the past year Under Konstruktion has since evolved into a darker Techno sound with Industrial elements.

Caceres sees Under Konstruktion as an idea and project that is always evolving. He believes in the importance of always moving forward and striving to discover and incorporate new sounds and elements into his work. Speaking of the meaning behind the name itself, Caceres has stated; “The idea was basically related to what I was working on at that moment. It was something that was always developing, so I just thought it would be a good name to be Under Konstruktion, because I was always developing a new sound. I was never going to stay on the same path musically.”

Besides being inspired by dark Techno and Industrial, Caceres is also inspired by 80’s electronic bands such as Depeche Mode. He has also cited Orphx and Orbital as more recent influences.

The technical setup for Under Konstruktion sees Caceres using Reason 5 to create and mix most of his work and also uses drum machines, synthesizers, samples and adds his own distorted vocal elements. Other equipment he uses includes; EA-Korg drum machine analogue modelling synthesizer, a ER-1Korg rhythm synthesizer, a Roland SP-404, a Korg-Monotron analogue ribbon synthesizer, an Akai-MPK Mini laptop production keyboard, a Behringer – B-Control Rotary BCR2000 and so on.

Some time after his debut performance in late 2011, Caceres was approached by the German label Noctambular, through which Under Konstruktion released the Square EP in January 2012. The EP has been well received and the track ‘Rectangle’ has since charted at no. 33 on djtunes.com Techno chart.
