Underground Parliament (UP) is an American hip hop duo from Turlock, California. Members, Eksperiens (producer-emcee) and Minus 1 (emcee) joined forces in 2007 and released their debut album “Lost In Transition: 01 (Human Resources)” in 2011 on Bennington Vibes Recordings. In a relatively short time after the debut release, UP realized to have developed a solid fan base in the underground hip hop community on a global scale.
Prior to the debut, in 2009 UP recorded and released several unmixed tracks on YouTube, including “Revolution Is Now”, “Heavy Duty”, “As a Child Growing Up”, and “Dark Road”. Although none of these tracks were officially released, “As a Child Growing Up” and “Dark Road” somehow made an appearance on several underground mixtapes across Europe (2009-2010), leading to a significant number of European listeners anticipating an album. Moreover, at the time of recording Lost In Transition: 01, one of UP’s audition tapes for a record deal leaked through the internet, generating a noticeable degree of fondness for the group. Many UP fans consider this a rare and classic bootleg tape, especially due to the raw production quality of the tracks.
Underground Parliament is affiliated with West Coast hip hop artists Papyrus, Influence, Q.Yada, and Donunnaki, who all appeared on the song “Chaotic Movement”. The five members together (Eksperiens, Minus 1, Papyrus, Q.Yada, and Donunnaki) form United Parliament. Papyrus also appeared on the song ‘This Ain’t No Game” and Influence appeared on “Die Rhyma” and “Ctrl+Alt+Del”. UP was featured on the song “Beyond Da Grave” from Papyrus’ debut album” Feast For All Centuries (2011)”. The group has also collaborated with hip hop artists Canibus “Ctrl+Alt+Del”, MC Juice “Dominance”, Eternia “Continental”, Rasco “Missing Verse-Elevation”, St. Laz “Street Runner”, and Opium “Sacred War” and “Street Runner”.
For the summer of 2010, UP anticipated the appearance of their song “Autobots” on the Transformers 3 Original Soundtrack, which was left unreleased due to sample clearance issues. A remixed version of Autobots became an obvious candidate for the group’s seventeen-track debut. For 2012, the group is said to be working on a few major projects, including the release of a five-track EP for United Parliament, and an official pregame song for their NBA home team, Golden State Warriors. Additional tracks by UP include, “Monsters In The Night”, “Untouchables”, and “Wednesday”, to be released in the spring of 2012.
