Tyrone Noonan has confirmed his long-awaited return to Australia with the announcement of his solo record reimagining, I’m a Believer, to be released on Fri 7 February 2014 (MGM).
The new mini-album’s lead single, Forever Girl, is a potent mix of indie electro and post-modern pop. To support the release, the former george front man will headline a select number of national shows featuring a catalogue of singles ranging from george to his latest release, and backed by some of Australia’s finest musicians.
Based in New York and London for five years, the heavily-maned ARIA award-winner is excited to be re-engaging with a blossoming Australian music scene.
“The music industry is changing and Australian music is taking charge globally,” he said. “When I first headed o-s it was still considered essential to “be there” to have an international career but now, fortunately, you really can do it from home. And there is a great quality to the current crop of acts coming out of this country, and New Zealand too of course.
“I can’t tell you how proud I was to hear and watch Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” literally take over New York and the US. It was truly something to behold – the song was pumping out of every second car and shop window. And it couldn’t have happened to a nicer bloke! I’m also very excited to be getting back out on the road with my new band and playing to Aussie audiences again.”
I’m A Believer is a reinvention of his first solo album I Believe, released with crowd-funding support in New York in 2011 (available thru MGM). For Noonan, it offered a chance to f*** with his album tracks, use his DJ skills and shift them into a new arena, while also collaborating with top producers from around the world.
What he has delivered is a bevy of unrestrained fresh hooks and throwback melodies that tastefully blur the lines between genres, taking in bluesy hip hop, house, drum‘n’bass and art rock.
