‘At Two Platforms’ is a peek into our studio over the last year. These are songs that were captured not in a typical recording environment, but at our rehearsal space with the same digital recorder that we use to listen back to our rehearsals with. Six of the seven songs here are improvised single takes, and the versions heard on this collection are the first (or only) time we tried to play them. This is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time now: to showcase what our material sounds like at the moment of creation, when each of us are responding to what’s happening and we’re playing, not thinking.
‘Palma’ is the only exception to this approach; it was performed and recorded by Sonny as a multi-track recording. Despite the different approach to writing and recording (or perhaps because of it) we think it fits in nicely between two of the longer improvisations, ‘Castries’ and ‘Apotres’.
