    Image = Wassily Kandinsky's "Fuga" (Fugue), 1914

    Kandinsky had the physiological gift of synaesthesia cognate, along with composer Alexander Scriabin, and writer Vladimir Nabokov, which enabled him to hear colors and to see sounds. Kandinsky wrote: "Color is the keyboard, the eyes are the harmonies, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul."
