The only west coast US based producer signed to Trouble & Bass is Samo Sound Boy who calls his home Los Angeles. Being the select member to hold it down for the west side, let us tell you that Samo is something special. Coming back with his 2nd release for T&B after his successful Heavy Bass Champions of the World Vol. VIII release, Samo has really taken his song writing, production and mixing skills to the next level with this Shuffle Code EP, containing two new fresh tracks. As you know from our back catalog, one of our favorite things to do is to seek out young and new talent and Samo has been one of the highlights of our roster in 2011, making his first appearances at SXSW, Miami Music Week, Coachella weekend and all around North America thanks to T&B Bookings!
As many of the T&B artists and their sound, Samo mixes together a wide variety of his influences together and meld his own sound, taking in parts of Chicago house, Ghetto tech, Gangster Rap, Techno and a little but of Baltimore Club. “Shuffle Code” the single of the EP is similar to Samo’s most recent re-works throwing down a caramba beat mixed with distorted kicks, along with a funky sample that sounds like a chicken, and a pitched down unkown declaring on the track “I’m So High”. On paper this sounds like the weirdest thing in the world, but this song not only makes perfect sense coming from Samo, but is as infectious as that DTL harmonica song. As the B-Side, Samo brings us “Me and You”, a moody horn driven slider that is a perfect tune for a set to make the vibe right. If there ever was a more outstanding B-Side, this is pretty the most notable from our catalog creating such an emotion while still holding onto it’s gutter and realness.
We kept the remixes for this EP very specific, curated directly by Samo himself. French based tech house producer extraordinaire Da Fresh brings us this progressive remix complete with long white noise build ups and heavy heavy kicks, it’s so perfect for the big club rooms that it’s already playing in Ibiza. Then we got the one and only London based and Hyperdub releasing Ikonika to put a whole different spin on “Shuffle Code” taking us into a different dimension of darker chords, crispy hi hats and arpeggiating synths. This is definitely a whole other level of epic.
