James Calvin Crockett, Jr., better known by his stage names Trew Music and Trew, is an American hip hop recording artist, songwriter from Prince George VA. He is currently operating from his own label, The Inner Circle Media Group.
Trew grew up listening to an array of musical genres due to visits to his family in the eclectic areas of Mt. Vernon and Harlem New York during his childhood. His sound is often referred to as a hybrid or alternative version of Hip- Hop. Trew’s musical curiosity later influenced him to become a music major, which earned him various awards and scholarships for playing trumpet, and baritone horn.

Earlier stages of Trew Musics’ career includes him being recognized for writing songs for soundtracks on Sony Motion Pictures, as well as jingles and modeling for clothing companies such as Ecko, LAYOP, and Local celebrity. New York based labels RockBoy & Roc-a-Blok records helped to release his debut album “The Big Chill.” The project and its lead single “What it is” featuring Lyricist Lounge’s great Wordsmith. Trew has also teamed up with Ski Beatz and protégé Eric Haywood to release the now leaked album “The Morning After”.

After a self-imposed hiatus, and a renewed love for writing, Trew finds himself in a new phase of his career. He credits touring with indie and pop acts “Kid is Qual”, “The Audition” “Valencia” and “Promise of Redemption” for helping to regain his love for all genres of music.

Now, with a new emphasis on fashion, as well as health and fitness, Trew has worked with Eric Haywood and Dan Edinberg of “The Stepkids” to combine his head nodding feel good music and trend setting style into a new formula that accurately portrays him. With a lofty goal in place for the listener to escape and the boundaries of genres, Trew wants to bring the FRESH back to music.
