A 13 piece Balkan Brass Band based in London, we play Balkan ska, klezmer reggae-Russo-Mexican trumpet tunes, Afghan love songs and Ottoman battle marches. Amongst our many influences are Fanfare Ciocarlia, Boban Markovic, Emir Kustirica, Goran Bregovic, Madness, The Specials and Gogol Bordello.
Since escaping the kitchens we have been hiding in Europe. We have been fortunate to play many gigs, in many places. Some highlights must be an underground biker's bar in Sarejevo, Glastonbury Festival, London's Cargo club with Graham Coxon, Vienna Central Park, The Secret Garden Party, Love Box festival, The Alternative Village Fete at the National Theatre and Liverpool Street Station as part of the 70th anniversary of Kinderstransport.
2009 saw our second tour of the Balkans, with gigs in Kotor, Maglai, Mostar and Sarajevo. We got arrested by the Serbian army for trying to have a barbeque in an abandoned Soviet Submarine base. No really. Summer of 2010 held many more exciting places for us to play, including Meltdown festival at the Royal Festival Hall, Henley Festival, Frankstock, The Thames Festival and a mini tour of Bristol and Wales. In 2011 we plan to tour Georgia. We hope you enjoy our album and please visit our bandcamp page if you'd like to buy it as a download or on CD - tsmb.bandcamp.com
