so it goes a little something like this:
I heard Jacques Renault's remix of "Beam Me Up" & it totally blew my mind.
I found it almost inconceivable that a modern band could sound so classic, so pure.
I reached out via social media.
I really wanted to write and produce a track with, and for, this band.
we met for lunch & broke break.
we got along, had laughs & decided to record together; setting a session a few months in the future.
then during the in-between time I saw them perform.
whatever I felt was solid in their recordings was blown away by their live show.
this is a band of misfits with endless chops.
it was a small gig yet they played large.
I was very eager to get to work.
    previous commitments were fulfilled.
    it was time.
I walked into that studio thinking we were going to make a House record.
    so did they.
we spent a whole day listening to music together so I could set the tone of the sessions.
I carefully pointed out the things I found endearing in those records.
they soaked it up like sponges.
it took a couple days to write it.
the lyrics came in minutes, not hours or days.
it's a love song to my muse.
it took a couple more days to record it.
we used Pro Tools like a tape machine.
    almost everything was live.
every effect was outboard & analogue so it was a session without plug-ins.
we mixed it at James Murphy's Plantain Studio on the day of a Prince concert.
    they brought their Midnight Magic.
I brought a head full of 70's Disco, early 80's Chicago House and the piano driven dance music of New York in the 90's.
    what we found was love.
    now that love is yours.
treat it right & it will love you back.
