'Led Zeppelin's pastoral folk meanderings meet Simon & Garfunkel pop'
Rob Da Bank - BBC Radio 1 DJ and Bestival/Camp Bestival organiser:
‘I loved The Widowmaker so much I booked him for Camp Bestival and Bestival!’
Tom Robinson - BBC 6 Music:
'The Widowmaker is certainly one to watch out for'
Martin James - Author/Music Critic:
‘City and Colour meets Fionn Regan. The UK's best kept secret’
Tom Quickfall – The 405:
‘The Widowmaker is a fine example of present-day folk blending, carefully selecting various roots styles to add to his tales from the edges of counterculture.’
The Widowmaker is a folk, blues and groove-orientated whirlwind, with songs influenced by counterculture and roots music. Written about the magical mixed with the reality and disillusionment that the modern world brings, The Widowmaker exhibits blues and Folk influences on a satiric and ironic level, with intricate fingerstyle embellishing colourful prose.
Simultaneous to the release of his debut album ‘Soundtrack to Reality’, The Widowmaker secured appearances at Glastonbury Festival, Glade Festival, Camp Bestival and Pulse Festival, playing before the likes of Seth Lakeman and The Levellers. The Widowmaker secured further slots at Pulse Festival, Blissfields Festival and Camp Bestival in 2011, playing to HUGE crowds and supporting First Aid Kit, Ed Sheeran and Laura Marling, no less. He then went on to nail a slot at Bestival 2012, having been booked personally by Rob Da Bank. Those feats are bookended with recording the music video for his single, ‘Black Monday’ and very recent exposure on BBC Introducing and BBC6 Music as an act to watch out for.
The Widowmaker has just released his 2nd album, titled ‘The Wink and The Gun’ to critical acclaim from the likes of Q Magazine, Rob Da Bank and The 405. With slots at Glastonbury and Bestival under his belt, the future certainly looks bright - watch this space 2013!!!
