Formed by brothers Steve and Joe Wall in 1998. The Walls started their own record label Dirtbird Records and released a string of singles as well as their first album Hi-Lo in 2000. It went Gold in Ireland on the back of good airplay and constant touring. Their second album New Dawn Breaking went Top 5 and was amongst the top selling home releases of 2005. "Their best work to date" - according to The Sunday Times. Singles released from it include Passing Through, Black and Blue, Drowning Pool and To the Bright and Shining Sun, containing that infectious guitar riff which helped The Walls become a household name when it was used on a major TV commercial. The Walls have supported the likes of U2, Bob Dylan and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers as well as touring regularly at home and abroad.
In March 2006 they went to the United States where they played to packed houses in New York, LA and Austin Texas as part of the SXSW Music festival and they were invited by Nic Harcourt to perform a session on his legendary “Morning Becomes Eclectic” show on KCRW.
Over the following two years the band played in France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria and undertook their first ever trip to Australia where Crowded House offered them lucrative support slots on their massive re-union gigs in Sydney and Melbourne.
The band built their own recording studio in Dublin and in 2008 they retreated into the darkness to work on album number three. In between working on music, the boys were heavily involved in the domestic duties of child rearing, which is an ongoing project in itself and full of surprises. However work has now finished on the album and it will be released in 2011.
Steve and Joe took a break from recording to perform a set of new songs at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin Texas on March 20th. In June 2010 they released a single containing two tracks from the forthcoming album: “Carrying the Fire” and “Phantom Power”.
In March 2011 a 4-track EP - 'Bird in a Cage' - will be released in the US and Ireland. It will also contain another track from the forthcoming album as well as two extra songs.
The album is due to be released in 2011.
