    Teacher, veterinarian, policeman, or firefighter — they're not uncommon aspirations for kids figuring out what they want to be when they grow up. But what about a coal miner? An oil rig operator? A truck driver or an air traffic controller? A landfill worker?  
    These are just a few of the relatively unglamorous but completely essential American jobs journalist Jeanne Marie Laskas attempts to shed some light on in her new book “Hidden America: From Coal Miners to Cowboys, and Extraordinary Exploration of the Unseen People Who Make This Country Work.”
