Kicking around the Australian music scene since 2007, Knightlife has long been a name synonymous with quality productions and releases. Now just off the back of his recent release on local label ‘Cutters Records’ and an upcoming performance at the NGV for Melbourne Music week, we are delighted to present Knightlife’s exclusive guest mix for THE RIPE.
First making his name doing remixes during the disco revival, Knightlife quickly moved on to originals and was picked up by Cut Copy’s record label ‘Cutters’. To date he has put his name on remixes for the likes of Midnight Juggernauts, Bag Raiders, Alex Gopher and Cut Copy themselves as well as making us dance and gaining world wide and local love on triple j with his various EPs.
It seems Knightlife enjoys playing music as much as he does making it. The last year or so has seen him tour and play internationally around the world, including a tour supporting Cut Copy. An upcoming Cutters Records show at the NGV for Melbourne Music Week will be the latest in a string of dates, this time supporting a disco-dream team of Tim Sweeney, Ben Browning and Collarbones amongst others. The M.M.W website describes it as “an all-in, kaleidoscopic, space disco.” Basically, you can expect good things.
However, not much time has been spent away from the midi keys it seems, with a recent single ‘Without Love’ giving us the first taste of a debut LP coming out in 2013. The track, featuring the vocal work or mysterious collaborator, simply known as ‘AP’ hails the movements towards a new synthier, more vocal driven direction for Knightlife’s productions. If it’s any indicator of what to expect from the Album, we’re excited.
‘Without You’ also tees-up the type of sounds and quality you can expect from Knightlife’s guest mix. The half hour mix works through a catalogue of tracks in genres such as House, Disco, Soul, Techno and basically anything else you’d eagerly expect plus a little bit more thrown on top. In short, it’s damn good listening and it’s up for free download. Everyone’s a winner.
