About

With enough infectious melody to sink a battleship backed up by undeniably biting lyrical wit The Ragamuffins are an energetic indie-pop six piece with swirling organs and irrepressible soulful brass accompanying chiming guitar, driving bass and pounding drums...

A hefty emphasis on harmonies, clear arrangements and catchy melodies in their music earned the band widespread recognition in a short space of time and airplay on BBC Radio Merseyside, BBC Radio Lancashire, on community radio and television stations far and wide and has resulted in the band’s music being played at some of the most famous football stadia in the world, including Liverpool’s Anfield stadium and Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground, not to mention David playing at Accrington Stanley's wonderful Crown Ground. Given the diabolical footballing ability displayed by some (all, let's be honest) members of the band down the years, this is probably the closest they'll come to gracing the aforementioned stages...

Anyway, back to the story! Thanks to the continuous hard work put in by one and all; with triumphant shows played across the North West and beyond, headlining at Academy venues and world famous clubs, playing their first international shows in Austria and Italy and opening for some legendary names in the business, The Ragamuffins have FINALLY released their first full length album "Irony Curtain" in 2012. The big infectious melodies and musical hooks remain, and the band hope to see you when they set off to play the gigs supporting this latest venture!

The Ragamuffins have gradually honed a jangly, frenetic pop style and groove taking in elements of Northern Soul, Ska, Rock n Roll, 80’s Electro Pop and the music of "The British Invasion" of the 1960's. This is neatly wrapped up in a dark, witty but uplifting lyricism, owing much to profound pop and indie greats such as Elvis Costello, Morrissey, Lloyd Cole and Stuart Murdoch, and brought together to produce a unique feel and sound. Keep listening and keep in touch!

"exactly what British indie pop needs right now; charm, originality, but most of all, damn fine song writing" – Preston University Press

"so passionate - The end result is beautiful songs that will not allow you to keep your feet still. We dare you not to dance!" – Northen Empire Promotions, Liverpool

“I'm not often impressed to the same margin I was when I heard The Ragamuffins via BBC Introducing. They are definitely a band for me, and their "kitchen-sink-drama jangly indie-pop songs" are really appealing. Together with their addiction to cups of tea, their music is close to my heart. It's similar enough to fit into the generically popular 'indie' category that's overwhelmed nowadays, but reasurringly different" - “Asp Bites” Online Review

“Throwing us a lifebelt filled with happy hummable songs, this band are what this once great country needs; a reason to get out of bed and dance. So set sail for the future because it will certainly be bright if The Ragamuffins have anything to do with it. 4/5” - Bluesbunny Independent Music Reviews on “El Bandito”

“There are times when you wonder if melody has been forgotten in popular music but not tonight. A musician said to me recently that it was really hard to write a happy song. Well, The Ragamuffins have them by the barrow load” - Bluesbunny Independent Music Reviews Live Review
