BEFORE anyone knew who you were. BEFORE anyone cared what you could or would do. BEFORE anyone listened. BEFORE any one BELIEVED. BEFORE the blog hype. BEFORE you were loved or hated. BEFORE you had an image to keep up with. BEFORE you could show up late or leave early. BEFORE EVERYTHING. It was just MUSIC.
Benj and i started this mixtape in May of 2011, not really knowing what we were getting ourselves into. The only thing we agreed on was that we would finish it. If we could get 12 worthy songs together to put together we would be happy that we finished what we started. We really didn't know who would be on it or how it would sound. The entire project was a labor of love, amongst friends and piers who either believed in us, or just liked us enough to have to goodwill to join in.
Most of the artist are relatively new, and are artists we were fans of online, or that we met through friends , that we had cultivated relationships thru email, phone calls, and twitter, most of which we have, if we weren't friends already, have become very close friends with.
Our only real objective for doing this mixtape was to have fun and be creative. There was really no agenda beyond good times with artists we love, and to create an enviorment where we could creatively be ourselves.
i think out of frustration with the music business sometimes it causes us to need an avenue to just have fun, make music, and to put it out for the pure love of it. The support from our friends and family really drove this project. Everyone from our brother Josh Madden, to Eiknarf, our LA , NYC, and Chicago friends, our studio team ARKANGEL and Dirty Waters, and so many other people really made this happen. i can already say there will be a Volume 2 in the works, as many of friends couldn't get in the studio in time to meet the deadline for Volume 1. we are just having so much fun we definitely don't want to stop this creative process. I think Ultimately everyone on this project share the same ideals of how things are supposed to be. We all started this in our bedrooms, basements, and garages. BEFORE the deals, or the blogs, or any kind of attention, we were all just happy to get in the studio and create. There were no ego's in this, or business deals, paperwork, or hoops to jump through. It was created purely out of a good vibes and positive dreaming. This mixtape for us was just a way to get back to what we love the most. The Music. I'm proud of this mixtape solely for the goodwill shown to us from all the artists, and the effort from everyone that was a part of this. It was a labor of love and i hope the music makes people feel good. We Really just wanted to make a mixtape that you could put on at a party and let it play. And hopefully Volume 2 will be even more fun, already looking forward to some really cool collabs for the next project. PLEASE ENJOY :)
