“It’s the chorus that holds this track for me. Just the right side of saccharin. The honesty and emotive qualities really shine through and subsequently the basic nature of the recording is charming “ Tom Robinson BBC 6Music, review on Freshnet. Tom is also playing our track on his show 8th April ! Our first national airplay !

lovely lovely local music from The Folk. I sat on youtube watching their video last night cos I just really, really like that.. it's good isn't it, yes, they are very talented... the chorus keeps popping in to my head, I was pushing Fraser on the swings to that, to the rhythmn of that chorus, it just keeps coming back into my head !

They were brilliant, they don't need instruments, there aren't many professionals that could do that..
They were a breath of fresh air, I don't mind telling you that !

Lovely interview and feature by FAME magazine :
'When it Rains ' and ' Stay' has been given 'The Cream Room' treatment, and we are really excited by the results of hours spent multi tracking ! ( and some heated debate about how we wanted it to sound )....
Were really chuffed when JACK 106FM wrote ' great ! Beautiful vocals - the whole mix is spot on - great single'
'Better than us ( Miss Havisham )' is the first track we wrote together in April 2011. It was inspired by our English GCSE coursework ! We love performing it, it is such a fun track. Hope you like it !
'Stay' is a more recent track, a gorgeous ballad with a strong fiddle solo. We recorded these two tracks as part of our 5 track debut EP titled 'Dressed Up' ( available to buy for £5 , contact us via facebook or email@example.com. )
'Dressed Up' is the title track on our debut EP and is a lighthearted, joyful, upbeat track.
'Outside' is a slightly more thought provoking, reflective track. It is our 'almost a capella' three part harmony ballad, triggered by the distressing anxiety disorder, agoraphobia. It is our current favourite track, the harmonies make the hairs on the back of our necks stand up !! hope you like it too :)
The tracks were recorded live at The Cream Room Recording Studio and had to be done in one take, as they were live, so no dubbing or editing opportunities !
Which one do you like best ?
We are working on four new tracks at the moment, Northern Boy, Here come the Creeps, Wait Forever and Disco Ball Bra - the latter of these is on here, pub recording, but worth it just the same !! Wait Forever is on youtube - type in thefolkuk
We would very interested to hear from you and will reply personally to everyone.
The Folk ( Lucy, Rose, Lauren and Sam )
Things people have written or said about us :
“Hailed as the female Mumford and Sons, this young girl group will blow you away.. "One to watch out for. 10/10" Micky Pallant
The Folk, they’re great ! I saw them at the Corn Exchange a couple of months ago, they are fantastic, they are really good. Four really nice young girls and they’re really good players as well and they write their own stuff. They do a few covers too and I think they’re going places. They’re doing real good’ Chas Hodges ( of Chas of Dave ) 19th Dec live on JACK 106 FM
“You know when you hear a band and you think ‘there’s no reason why they shouldn’t make it ?’. I feel that way about The Folk” Steve Folland ( Breakfast DJ on JACK 106FM ) 21st dec. 2011.
Really great watching you perform. I can't believe how professional you all are. I could just tell as you were getting set up that you totally know what your all doing. I know musicians twice your age and they don't know half of what you do.
"A wonderful band that appeared as if from nowhere. I feel honoured to have hosted them at my own acoustic night."
Matt Coston, findanopenmic.com
At a time when the X Factor is peddling music as a by-product of the celebrity machine, it’s refreshing to see and hear real music made with real instruments, coming out of Hertford in the shape of The Folk. A little bit Mumford & Sons, a little bit Fleet Foxes but very much themselves; driving their own brand of Folk-pop originals and covers. Go and see these girls, you won’t fail to be in thrall to their honest, uplifting performance. Richard Pearse, Token Female
Bit of band biog information from the Press release !
:Young, passionate, and vibrant, The Folk are an exciting new Herts based four piece girl group. They flourish their uke’s, fiddle, mandolin and drum to generate an uplifting quirky vibe.
Formed in 2011and having played countless gigs in Herts and London – at least one a week, the prolific singer songwriting partnership that is The Folk are excited to be self releasing two singles, an EP and their debut album, all in 2012, paid out of the proceeds of busking !
Described as the lovechild of Florence and Mumford with a dash of Lily Allen, THE FOLK are passionately blurring the traditional lines of folk with an infusion of intelligent acoustic pop.
An appealing combination of accessible songwriting - a collaborative effort with often complex arrangements and intricate key changes aided by talented performances; their challenging vocal lines and frequent harmonies blend with the evidence of their musical backgrounds : regular instrument changes - fiddle, banjolele, mandolin, five different types of ukulele, guitars and floor Tom currently star in their repertoire ! The result ? sumptuous, lyrical melody lines topped by catchy choruses and gorgeous harmonies.
Thanks for your interest :)
let us know what you think of our music ....
love, The Folk ( Rose, Lauren, Lucy and Sam )
