I just can't get enough of this beautiful song...."big boys don't cry" sounds like he is trying to convince himself....Renee F. this one is for you. When my family moved into our very first purchased home in 1967, the first person I met was Renee F, a gentle and friendly soul who lived next door with her soon to be divorced parents. Throughout the years, we got to know each other better. One day in early 1975 she came knocking on my door with the 7 vinyl in her hand to show me. We went back to her place and she put it on and this wonderfully produced music came floating out of those speakers! She just loved this song, how beautiful it sounded and how the sadness of the lyrics made it more beautiful. Every time I hear this, I think of her. She passed on, way too young, some time ago. My family moved away in 1978 and that was the end of it. Recently, I came upon some new material recorded but either edited out of the original or recorded around the same time...I just finished it and see that I have passed the twelve minute mark....oh well, I just never get tired of hearing this one. Put your headphones on! Eric Stewart, a member of the great 60's Brit Pop band The Mindbenders (A Groovy Kind Of Love), left that band along with Graham Gouldman and met up with two expatriates of the band The Mockingbirds, Lol Creme and Kevin Godley. In their first incarnation as Hotlegs, they scored big in the US with "Neanderthal Man". Changing their name to 10cc, they did not have a hit in the US until 1973 with "Rubber Bullets". Two years later Eric and Graham composed "I'm Not In Love". The extremely complex production layered more than 250 vocal tracks to create the hypnotically lush #2 pop hit.
