Drift the Dean, producer, emcee and Dj started banging out beats in his uncle’s studio at age 9. He learned the basics of drum sequencing, sampling and recording, and used them to create electro, funk and hip hop while other kids were playing T-Ball. In 1994 he founded Gem Collekshuns with three other friends, and began to produce their hip hop projects. As a staple of the late 90's drum and bass scene, The Dean was spinning at myriad events, bars and clubs in the Southern California area while producing acclaimed beats with various talents on the scene. In the early 2000's, as the DnB scene became intertwined with dubstep, Drift began applying the production skills he'd honed on the DnB dancefloors to the hip hop tempo of and razor sharp synths of dubstep. In a constant effort to expand the genre, he began to develop his own unique dubstep sounds, distinctive to the LA underground and life with techy, grimy, bass driven sound. Continuing to be a fixture on the dubstep scene, Drift Dj's at many parties, clubs and massive events around the west coast, often playing his own productions interspersed with other artists who toe the bleeding edge of the genre. That got the Dean locked in as resident Dj for weekly and monthly events, Grime Time, Suboxone, Overtime and a few others. With releases on iTunes and Beatport from labels such as Quad Damage Recordings, Tape Deck, Betafish, a weekly radio show on Bass Junkees, and more projects on the way, The Dean has become a notable and distinctive voice in the Los Angeles dubstep scene.
