The Chongs have been playing since 2009. We started as a lunch break past-time. A mix of musicians, taking some time out to feed a habit for banging some sounds out. We got our weekly fix over and over again and sooner or later, The Chongs started to take on an identity of its own. The name itself arrived at the beginning when after talking world affairs and quantum entanglement,('Not really fans of Football), Mol piped up with "So? Wanna play some Chongs?" He meant 'Songs' or he meant 'tunes' but what we got was 'Chongs' and we stuck by it.

The audiences at open-mics were entertained enough. People tapped their toes. They forgave us our beginners faffing. A few weeks later, one South London bar we had played at, offered us a slot with a few other bands for enough to cover the bus fare we had lost since we'd started there. It was good to be in the company of fellow players. Acts that we might only ever see once, offered inspiration and passion for their own personal compositions.

This is where music exists in it's truest form. In the hands of it's creator. Raw and undiluted. There's a middle ground of ignorant bliss though, nowadays. That next stage is always advertised as impossible without major backing along with those deliciously decietful contracts. We wanna give permission to Artists to be happy with their music as it is.

Radio Gaga is monopolising the frequencies. Labels suck good artists dry financially nearly implying that the brain behind the material is secondary to the expensive Engineering. Sound clarity is one thing but certain tools today, are far too generous to the average performer. That's why we self promote and we don't filter our music through endless machinery. It is what it is and if you dig it, We keep doing it.
