About
TheBedroomRockers (Joey Muniz & Lady Maroo) are an independent live performance duo based out of Washington DC. The concept in its early stages began as a small crew of DJs that hosted a weekly party, ‘Liquid Nights’, in Florida – Joey’s home state. The parties featured acid jazz, funk, atmospheric drum and bass and other experimental sounds as a chiller alternative to the music that was being played in typical dance club settings. Upon his move to the East Coast, Joey hosted a similar party at Washington DC’s Club Gazuza; it was here that he began performing productions of his own, soon discovering his desire to begin incorporating more live elements into his tracks and mixsets.
After meeting through mutual musician friends in 2005, Joey and Lady Maroo together took his concept to the studio; inspired by the music of their clubbing days, the two embarked on a quest to produce a fresh, more lounge-friendly sound. Joey sought to create electronic beats built around elements of live instrumentation, giving his tracks a distinct raw, organic sound. Lady Maroo’s simple, catching melodic vocals proved to be the perfect compliment to the steady, chilled out vibes of Joey's creations.
The Bedroom Rockers project came in and out of focus while Joey and Lady Maroo went on a hiatus of sorts from their downtempo effort to work on productions and performances with their side project, the hip hop group, Mathpanda, meanwhile continuing to build their own individual DJ careers. After years of working together, Joey and Lady Maroo took a step back one day to realize that the time had finally come to push the boundaries of their ‘hobby’ by bringing it to life in the form of an album. Combining their earlier works with newer efforts, the two have continued to evolve their sound, as can be evidenced by their project that has been over 5 years in the making.
TheBedroomRockers’ debut album 'Night Light' takes you on an aural journey told through a distinctive sound which can best be described as an eclectic downtempo blend – an experimental fusion of trip/hip hop, ambient, acid jazz, and lounge laced with traces of breakbeat, jungle and dubstep. The album represents a renewed collection of their musical efforts over the years, and is being formally presented to the public for the first time.
