WB009: Violet - Collective Data EP

When it comes to using "neon synths", arguably one of the most criticised definition of music production over the last couple of years, one must be careful not to blend with a mass of Night Slugs fans and imitating bedroom producers. Violet (the alias speaking for itself) on her debut for Wicked Bass delivers something familiar, yet subtly new: 'Collective Data' leaves as light aftertaste of envy towards her ability to keep an ideal balance between 80's and now, and, most importantly, the success in finally bridging the gap between classic Italo (attention!) Disco and modern bass music. With all three original pieces sounding like present-time Change or Touch at their best, and two old skool reworks — one for Detroit and one for Philly — from Photonz and Cardopusher, this fivetracker is a true gem in any DJ's collection. - S.Tsereteli
