Released within a year of their platinum selling debut 'Wait For Me,' Emergency followed the success of The Pigeon Detectives first album selling 150,000 copies.
Shortly after releasing Wait For Me the band decided they didn't want to rest on their laurels and immediately set to work on the follow up. Fitting in writing sessions between tours the bulk of Emergency was demoed before the band set off on a sold out UK tour in the autumn of 2007.
During the summer the band had been back in the studio to re-record I Found Out to release as the final single from the Wait For Me campaign with legendary producer Stephen Street (Blur / The Smiths). After the session it was decided Street was the man to work with on album 2. The Pigeon Detectives decamped to Monnow Valley studios in the heart of Monmouthshire, Wales straight after the new year celebrations to track the album. By the time the band played their first show of 2008 on February 7th at the Astoria as part of the NME Award shows the album had been recorded.
Emergency was mixed in February of 2008 at Olympic Studios in London and completed on the eve of the bands US tour in March.
The Pigeon Detectives returned to the UK to begin touring for the new album, playing 2 shows to 14,000 at Millenium Square in the heart of Leeds.
This Is An Emergency was released as the first single from the album, reaching number 14, the bands 2nd highest charting single. The album followed a week later on May 26th, reaching number 5.
