Armed to the teeth with songs elegantly robust and organically haunting, carrying the old guard swoon of acts like The Band and Neil Young, along with the determined swagger of newer blues statesmen My Morning Jacket, The Hello Morning live and breathe their craft.” - NME, October 2011
After several years of scuffled suitcases, heartfelt live performances and a few months spent in a small cottage in rural Victoria recording their debut album, The Hello Morning have been making a name for themselves on the Australian and international music scenes. Their melodies have spread virally across the globe from Poplie.eu radio Greece, to the music bible NME, UK and the band are no longer Melbourne’s best kept secret.
The road trip commenced in 2008 when they were discovered by Outpost Management and joined their stable of acts which includes Bertie Blackman and Kimbra. Three years on and The Hello Morning have inked a distribution deal with MGM for their self titled album which will be released in February 2012. The album was recorded by Jimi Maroudas (The Living End, Tim Rogers, Eskimo Joe) at Melbourne’s Sing Sing studios. The first single Stone Cold Lover will be released December 5.
The songwriting partnership of Steven Clifford (vocals/guitar) and Matthew John Smith (guitar/vocals) draw inspiration from an incredibly diverse palette ranging from Otis Redding and Johnny Cash to The Black Keys and Wilco.
From their track turn over, unison and light and shade, each song was effortless and tight in its build and transition. The empathic croon of lead singer Steven Clifford lingered over the crowd’s silence...A follower shouted soon after, “That’s not normal!” summing up perfectly what most patrons were thinking as they shook their heads in amazement and began to register what just happened.” – FasterLouder
