Charlie Jefferson and Geoffrey Crowther first met in the basement of a dingy club in Glasgow, sometime in the autumn of 2005. Brought together by the promise of mellow grooves and a good cocktail, their mutual disgust was immediately apparent: jerking, spasmodic music; watered-down, poorly conceived drinks; and an atmosphere no better than a lusty school disco. Cocktail in hand, they sought refuge from the packed dancefloor, picking their way through to the small lounge at the back of the club. This smoky, dimly-lit room was to provide the genesis for their sound as they became acquainted with each other's techniques, inspirations and aspirations. They resolved to make the antidote to bombastic club music, their own idyllic beachscape- a catalyst for good conversation; the perfect setting in which to enjoy life's finer cocktails.
