This song is about our youth, and the nostalgia thereof.
The lyrics are much inspired by the German poet Rilke:
"I asked for my childhood and it has come back, and I feel that it is just as difficult as it was before, and that it has been useless to grow older." - "Malte Laurids Brigge" by Rainer Maria Rilke
"We Might As Well Have Stayed Young" was released on The Enright House's debut album, 'A Maze and Amazement' (A Low Hum, 2007).

... wonderful song ... great voice ... woh !
@Ariel X: Drum sound is most definitely not standard. They were played by Nick Harte of the Shocking Pinks (DFA). Nick played a toy drum kit with two paintbrushes of differing sizes (really cheap cymbals etc) and we recorded them with only a stereo set of Rode NT5's. I think the sound fits the song quite nicely, although I totally wish we would have used better hats and rides. Anyhow, glad you like the song man.
GREAT song! I really like the emotion conveyed, and the voice--nice. Seems too brief, though; and there's something about the EQ on the drums that doesn't sound right to my ears. Overall though, I really dig this track.
lovely intro !!
