The Courtney John Project
One of the most moving and electrifying award winning writers, Courtney John returns with his eagerly awaited collaboration The Courtney John Project, with guests including long time producer-cohort The Wizard. The project can be described as the brainchild of Courtney John, who brings along acclaimed artists to each live show experience, so that every audience is blessed with something musically unique.
To say the album is a step outside music’s comfort zone would be an understatement. The Courtney John Project is an audio journey that is one part Kingston mash up, one part euro-electronica and, 100% provocative in its approach to contemporary music. Add John’s trademark lovers rock melodies and you have the birth of a new music genre-- Rootstronic. John’s fresh sound coming out of Jamaica is in its own lane artistically. John is inviting listeners to join him, along with his various “Kingstonians” and world-class musicians, on this ride.
"The Courtney John Project is a place where musicians can be brave and not have to worry about their expressions. It’s totally outside of the comfort zone,” explains Courtney John.
Listener’s first taste of the Rootstronic sound is found with the breakout single Soul Of A Man. The Wizard’s electro-heavy, adventurous engineering is certainly what makes the song a highlight on the album, as well as John’s unorthodox vocal delivery, which will surely surprise fans expecting that familiar sound. The Courtney John Project recently released the follow up single, Black Cinderella, a cover of reggae anthem and an Errol Dunkley original that was inspired by a Jimmy Rodway poem of the same name. Black Cinderella came out in 1972 on Fimi Time Label. The Courtney John Project reinvents the anthem in only a way they can deliver.
The Wizard that takes command of the albums overall direction, producing The Courtney John Project. A true musical Wizard is revealed as if her performer name is evoked with every song-- guiding fans using rhythms as her device. This is certainly a special trio that is completed with Courtney John who takes on the role as the charismatic vocal leader, directing the masses like an orchestra conductor.
The video to Soul of A Man is complimentary to the music with rousing imagery and inventive live show elements. This explosive visual introduction is a precursor of what is next to come for the once studio bound musicians-- extensive world touring in 2013. Fans can expect a full sensory experience that showcases musical prowess, dramatic stage costumes and a mystical set design sure to capture the attention of all in attendance till the last chord is struck.
Previous work from John’s solo efforts has garnered him some of music’s highest accolades. Courtney John’s latest release From Letters to Words and 2009’s Made in Jamaica with the infectious single "Lucky Man" saw crossover success and was picked for the 2011 Axe/Lynx summer campaign that ran in the UK. Additional writing for Marcia Griffiths, Culture and Luciano along with vocal contribution to Sly & Robbie’s 2011 Grammy Nominated Album “One Pop Reggae” only further established John as a musical heavyweight and his title as the worldwide “Lovers Rocker.”
On this current album John’s guest musicians are also very noteworthy. At only 25 years old, female super producer The Wizard has already collaborated with the likes of Nelly Furtado, Michael Franti and Beres Hammond as producer and remixer and her music landed a TV placement on MTV’s Jersey Shore and production credit on Paulia Rubio’s Brava album that reached #1 on the Latin Billboard Charts.
Each project saw the two artists grow as musicians and performers more and more however the transformation was nothing like what is to come with The Courtney John Project.
