About

The Children of Warhol are the musical extension of the Nomad Junkie (Dennis Leroy Kangalee) and his poems and sketches about New York City, gentrification, and the lack of consciousness on the rise as a result of Pop Culture, globalization, and more sophisticated forms of oppression. Writer & performer Kangalee created his solo performance piece "Gentrified Minds", with original music co-written by Bob Kuch, forming their theatrical punk band, The Children of Warhol, in his first attempt to present his monologues and "holy rants" in a formal theatrical context. Staged by Nina Fleck, it received its premiere in the 9th Annual Downtown Urban Theater Festival in 2011. Part poem, satire, and fragmented narrative, "Gentrified Minds" is the first step in a new wave of performance art that seeks to recapture the rebellious spirit of the "NY (urban)counter-culture" mixed with the socially & politically conscious lyrics of classic punk & rap music. Dennis Leroy Kangalee is a native New Yorker and has been a maverick of the independent/underground art community for 15 years. He is the author of "Lying Meat" and the creator of the 2002 cult film "As an Act of Protest."
