A song about songwriting, started during double history in 1978 and finished around 2008.

There's a song in my head it doesn't mean very much
But I've just got to work it out
It's been echoing round in the bank of my mind
Got to find what it's all about
And it might not be the kind of masterpiece
That's gonna shake the music world
But it's something to play that's got something to say
So it's something that should be heard

This guitar's been my friend through thick and thin
for more years than I care to say
And the songs that I sing may never bring me fortune or fame
But that won't stop me cutting up these little pieces of my soul
And I'll give them to you with some words and a tune
Like somehow that'll make them whole

There's a dong in my head. a song in my head
A song in my head, in my head
Now there's a new road ahead, a different path to tread
Just as long as there's a song in my head

Wake up in the morning unsure of what I've got
Never really now if it's a little or a lot
A melody comes and goes astray
If it returns it's here to stay
for more than one more play

And it might not be the kind of masterpiece
That's gonna shake the music world
But it's something to play that\s got something to say
Now it's something that you have heard
