Awesome idea! I'd love to hear a podcast about the logic of riding a fixie in San Francisco.

This show is a fantastic idea! As a recovering urban planner, I'm fascinated with place. You know, those termini between zippy transit tours via boat, train, car, bike or roller skates. By extension, I'm totally into this idea of exploring how we go, how we fail to get going, how *want* to go, and why we feel the need to go.

So? I can't wait to see where you take this, Ted!

      Also? The tagline? *Fantastic.*

@radio rachel and @SuziMontgomery: I'm glad to hear we've got a couple of BART enthusiasts in our midsts. I've been writing about transpo in Berkeley and Oakland for the last couple years, so in some ways BART is the brightest star in my sky. As for why BART doesn't run 24 hours, I've actually written an article about this. Check it out: http://oaklandnorth.net/2011/02/08/bart-riders-lobby-for-later-service/

yes! this is great, ted! i hereby formally request that you devote at least one podcast to the question: no, really, why can't bart run 24-hours?

Love love the pogo stick in the sound montage! Obviously you know how to get around... and the BART issues only start with losing an arm... good luck!

@The New York Crimes: Oh my god, thank you for introducing me to the term "psychogeography."

this sounds like a great podcast. as someone who is always wandering and can't sit still, i love the idea of a show about transit, traveling, psychogeography. great potential for sound effects and sound design.

@lauraherberg, thanks for your interest! I'll be based out of San Francisco, but Detroit isn't so far away! :) I grew up in Minneapolis and went to college in Ohio, so the Midwest is very much a part of my blood. Thanks for fighting the good fight there. The Detroit Mobile Audio Tour Project sounds like a great idea.

As for a freelance budget, I'm not sure I'm quite there yet. But let's stay in touch and see what happens after I get a couple episodes out. Having listened to your Audio Tour pitch, I can tell I'd love to work with you.

Ted - you're onto something here and it's totally up my alley. Some of the most interesting transportation stories, at least to me, aren't "Federal Light Rail Budget Gets Voted Down," they're the ones that answer questions like the ones you propose in your intro here. Where are you going to be based? And did you include any money in your budget for freelance contributors!? I know of a radio producer based in Detroit who would love to contribute [if her own Detroit Mobile Audio Tour Project doesn't get funded]. You can reach her by replying to this message. :)
