Composing music is nonstop for me. I am generally working on countless different projects at a time and they all influence each other. Rarely a day goes by where I don’t write music. I try to keep as much creative energy flowing and just go where the inspiration leads.
In terms of genres, I feel married to nothing but I have always been influenced by a few things — the impressionistic area of classical music, where people really began to think outside the box in terms of traditional harmony; specifically Debussy and his disregard for anything except what sounded aesthetically pleasing to his ear. In doing so he would discover so many beautiful chords and harmonies that in someway would lay the foundation for a lot of the framework for jazz.
A lot of the electronic dance music that I write and play now is influenced from jazz sensibilities. I would say for sure the biggest rule of writing is always, less is more.
