    The Bedouin moon
shone upon the world's most lonely man.
He was wandering in the desert
when he found an abandoned city in the sand.
It had silver streams and fruit-trees
that bent their heavy branches to his hand.
He thanked the angel of his loneliness
for bringing him into the promised land.

    Without solitude,
    love won't follow you.
Love won't follow you on your long journey home.
    Without solitude,
    love will swallow you.
That's why you and I must learn to be alone.

    That Bedouin moon
is shining on the teardrops in your eyes.
You don't believe me that I love you,
and my promises don't leave you satisfied.
There's a place you want to take me,
but I can't go there, no matter how I try.
I guard the doorstep of your dreams,
but I do not have the key to come inside.

    Without solitude,
    love won't follow you.
Love won't follow you on your long journey home.
    Without solitude,
    love will swallow you.
That's why you and I must learn to be alone.

What became of the world’s most lonely man?
He sent for all his friends and family to share the promised land.
But the angel of his loneliness met them all with sword in hand.
The angel fell upon the people, and they scattered and ran.
Then he buried that great city in the sand ....

    The Bedouin moon
still shines upon the world's most lonely man.
That’s what I used to call myself,
till a hundred heartbreaks made me understand
    that love is rolling river
between two banks that no bridge can ever span.
So let's walk our separate banks together,
as our angels lead us to the promised land.

    Without solitude,
    love won't follow you.
Love won't follow you on your long journey home.
    Without solitude,
    love will swallow you.
That's why you and I must learn
that's why you and I must learn
that's why you and I must learn
    to be alone.
